In memory of Mr Mariano Puig ( 1927 – 2021 )
Mr. Puig was a second generation member of the Puig family and former president of Puig, the multinational fashion, perfumery and cosmetics company. Born in Barcelona in 1927, he was husband to MariÌa Guasch and is survived by four sons and one daughter.
Mr. Puig was a Chemical Engineer and a Graduate of IESE Business School and currently member of its International Board. Mr. Puig is former Chairman of PUIG, a $2 billion revenue multinational fashion, perfumery and cosmetics company. He was also a founding member of the Family Business Institute in Spain, of which he was president from 1995 to 1997. His business expertise also grew with his acquisition of representation of the Max Factor brand in the late 1950s. He led the distribution of the brand in Spain for more than 15 years. He also grew his own brand’s international representation through collaborations with Paco Rabanne and later Carolina Herrera.
Even from a young age, Mariano Puig stood out for his leadership abilities and keen business sense. As President of Puig, he established important ties with US, Caribbean and French markets.
In February 2019, King Felipe VI of Spain presented Planas with the Kingdom of Spain Award in February 2019 in recognition of his successful business career.
The main brands of the group are the world-renowned Puig, Paco Rabanne (Paris), Nina Ricci (Paris),Carolina Herrera (New York), Jean Paul Gaultier (Paris). With the worldwide distribution of their products, the companies of the Group provide work for 5.000 people and have factories in Spain, France, and Mexico. Mr Puig was the former Chairman of Exea, the Puig Family’s own holding that owns Isdin (50%), Uriage and Flamagas with factories in Spain, China, India and Vietnam.
Mr. Puig has broad experience in managing the business as well as in managing the corporate governance bodies of the Group. Mr. Puig is a Founder Member of the Spanish “Instituto de la Empresa Familiar†and served as President from 1995 to 1997. He was a Founder and now Honorary President of the European Family Business, EFB, which is an umbrella for all the associations of Family Businesses of the member states, representing them before the economic authorities of the EU in Brussels.

The Puig Family has received the IMD Distinguished Family Business Award, Lausanne (1998) and the Family Business Award, Kellogg University, Chicago(2003).
Mr. Puig held the Silver Medal for Sporting Merit, the Medal for Naval Merit with White Insignia and the Golden Medal New York Spanish Institute.
In 2016 Mr. Puig received the Gold Medal for Merit at Work. In 2019 Mr. Puig received the Kingdom of Spain Award. A sportsman in his youth, he was member of the Spanish Ski and Water SkiTeam. Twice a Spanish Champion of his speciality, he also participated in the World Cup in Vienna, Copenhagen and Cypress Gardens, Florida.
